EMC: Paying Close Attention to its Storage Roots
The company is the leading vendor in several core storage markets, and its enterprise and midrange products also provide an anchor for storage applications that are rela-tively high on the need for performance and advanced data management services.
In addition to these core storage markets, EMC clearly recognizes the two ―monkey wrenches confronting its customers — the rise of non-structured data in importance (as poster boy big data attests) and the need to overcome I/O bottlenecks with better storage perfor-mance, which is where flash SSDs have taken center stage — and has taken swift and strong measures to address them. These initiatives (Isilon in the former case, and a plethora of flash choices in the latter) do a good job of addressing or even eliminating those challenges.
