“Dell started as the quintessential horizontal company. You know: We sell PCs, we sell servers. We don’t know what value you put in them. Just buy a lot and thank you very much.
We got pretty far with that strategy, but over time, we realized that it isn’t enough. For the next 25 years, we really have to do something else. That involved gaining more expertise, gaining more software capabilities, pursuing acquisitions and investments and new talent.”
