They can cause dehydration

The main stimulant in energy drinks is caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic and increases urine production. In some worse cases, consumption of too much energy drinks can lead to dehydration. The recommended level of caffeine intake in a day should not exceed 400mg.

They can damage teeth

Energy drinks can contain citric acid, which can damage your teeth in the long run. In fact, they have a higher level of acidity as compared to sports drinks and thus can cause corrosion of the teeth enamel. The risk increases if the energy drink also has a high level of sugar. The sugar and citric acid combination can prove to be quite damaging for the teeth.

Too much of energy drink consumption can upset the balance of acids in the stomach. This in turn can cause poor digestion and heartburn, even irritate the lining of the stomach and gut. It can lead to cramps, nausea, diarrhea and even vomiting in some people.
