I’ve modeled before, and I’ve styled models in fashion shows and for photoshoots. I might have more experience in front of the camera, but we’ve all had our picture taken before. We’ve all tried to hide bad pictures of ourselves. I can safely say that nobody wants their double chin immortalized in a high-gloss five by seven photos.
To prevent these bad photos, I’ve compiled a list of simple advice from my experience, and some tips from the models that I have worked with. They will improve your overall photographing abilities. These tips will help you look great in any photo, be it a family Christmas card or a yearbook photo.
First, the best advice I can give you is to practice. Practice facial expressions and body positions in the mirror. Get to know how certain movements and how your best smile feels. Doing a little bit of studying can go a long way. One model even told me that she was never happy with her candid shots until she learned that an opened mouth smile looked best on her.
Anybody will tell you that practice makes perfect. The same is true when it comes to being photogenic. It’s important that you practice regularly and really take notice of how all of your facial muscles feel in certain expressions.
Second, another way to not look dorky in photos is to really study style. Make an effort to always present yourself in a classic manner. Trendy Hair, makeup, and apparel can end up making you look ridiculous in retrospect. There are too many school yearbooks and family photo albums that have to be hidden away in order to save face.
Third, if you don’t have the time to practice or the commitment to make adjustments in your style, one of the quickest things you can do when a camera comes out, is to correct your posture. Put your shoulders back and elongate your neck. If you’re sitting down make sure your spine is straight. Moreover, you can get Instagram views to gain more popularity. You get instant views and your post gets boosted instantly. This is an easy way for upcoming models to increase their popularity on Instagram.
